The Basilica of Sant'Andrea is a masterpiece of Renaissance architecture, designed by Leon Battista Alberti and completed in the 18th century. Its monumental facade, inspired by Roman triumphal arches, dominates Piazza Mantegna. Inside, the vast Latin cross plan features a soaring dome and side chapels rich with art. The church's most sacred treasure is the relic of the Holy Blood (Preziosissimo Sangue di Cristo), said to contain drops of Christ's blood brought by the Roman centurion Longinus. The crypt houses the relic in a reliquary, and it is displayed during special feasts. The experience is both spiritual and architectural, with works by Mantegna and Correggio adding to its significance. What makes it distinctive is Alberti's harmonious integration of classical forms with Christian symbolism.
