Consonno, often called the 'City of Toys,' is a fascinating ghost town perched on a hill overlooking Lecco. In the 1960s, a local entrepreneur attempted to transform this medieval village into a Las Vegas-style amusement park, complete with a minaret, a ballroom, and a fake castle. However, a landslide in 1976 and subsequent neglect turned the dream into a surreal ruin. Today, visitors can wander through the decaying structures, graffiti-covered walls, and overgrown pathways, imagining the vibrant past that never fully materialized. The site offers a unique blend of eerie beauty and historical curiosity, with panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and Lake Lecco. It's a photographer's paradise and a poignant reminder of ambitious visions cut short. Despite its abandonment, Consonno attracts urban explorers and history buffs drawn to its strange, melancholic charm.
