The Cappella Sansevero, also known as the Sansevero Chapel, is a hidden gem in the heart of Naples, renowned for its stunning Baroque art and the iconic Veiled Christ statue. The chapel was originally a private place of worship for the Sangro family and was transformed in the 18th century by Prince Raimondo di Sangro, a eccentric polymath and patron of the arts. The Veiled Christ, carved by Giuseppe Sanmartino, is a breathtaking marble sculpture depicting Christ lying under a transparent veil. The illusion of the veil is so realistic that it appears to be real fabric, but it is entirely carved from a single block of marble. The chapel also features other allegorical statues and the famous 'Anatomical Machines', preserved human skeletons with intricate circulatory systems. A visit here is a profound artistic experience, showcasing the pinnacle of Neapolitan Baroque craftsmanship.
