Chiesa Matrice, also called the Duomo of Erice, is the principal church of the medieval hilltop town. Its imposing stone facade and tall bell tower dominate the main square, making it a focal point of the historic center. Inside, the church is relatively simple but elegant, with a single nave, a wooden ceiling, and a few notable artworks including a marble triptych by the Gagini school. The real highlight, however, is the bell tower. Climbing its narrow stairs rewards visitors with sweeping views over Erice's red-tiled roofs, the surrounding countryside, and on clear days, the sea and the Egadi Islands. The church dates back to the 14th century, built on the site of a former pagan temple. It remains an active place of worship, and visitors are welcome to attend mass or simply admire its architecture and atmosphere.
