Perched atop Monte Allegro at 612 meters above sea level, the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Montallegro is a revered pilgrimage site with a breathtaking view of the Ligurian coast. The sanctuary owes its fame to a Byzantine-style icon of the Virgin Mary, which, according to tradition, appeared to a local farmer in 1557. Pilgrims and tourists alike ascend the mountain via a historic cable car from Rapallo, gliding over lush forests and terraced hillsides. At the top, the serene church interior houses the icon, while the adjacent terrace offers a panorama stretching from Portofino to the Cinque Terre. The site also features a small museum, a café, and walking trails through the surrounding chestnut woods.
