The Portofino Lighthouse, known locally as Faro di Portofino, stands at the eastern tip of the Portofino peninsula, marking the entrance to the Gulf of Tigullio. Built in the early 20th century, the lighthouse is a classic white stone tower with a lantern room, set against a backdrop of dense Mediterranean scrub and dramatic cliffs. The site is a popular destination for hikers and boaters, accessible via a scenic trail from Portofino village (about 40 minutes) or by water taxi. From the lighthouse, visitors are rewarded with sweeping views of the Ligurian Sea, the coastline towards Camogli and Genoa, and on clear days, the island of Corsica. The surrounding area is part of the Portofino Marine Protected Area, known for its rich marine life and clear waters, making it a great spot for snorkeling. While the lighthouse itself is not open to the public, the grounds and viewpoint are free to explore, and the sunset views are particularly spectacular.
