Pinacoteca Tosio Martinengo is Brescia's premier art museum, housed in a 17th-century palace. Its collection spans from the Renaissance through the 19th century, with a strong focus on local Lombard artists such as Moretto da Brescia, Romanino, and Savoldo. The gallery also features Italian and European masters, including works by Raphael, Lotto, and Canova. What makes it distinctive is its intimate scale and the quality of its Brescian school paintings, which are rarely seen elsewhere. Visitors can admire richly detailed altarpieces, portraits, and landscapes arranged chronologically. The museum's elegant rooms, with original frescoed ceilings, add to the experience. You'll see Moretto's 'Christ in the House of Simon the Pharisee' and Hayez's 'The Kiss' (a version).

Don't miss

  • Moretto's 'Christ in the House of Simon the Pharisee' – a masterpiece of Brescian Renaissance
  • Raphael's 'Angel' – a rare work by the Urbino master
  • Hayez's 'The Kiss' – a Romantic icon
  • Romanino's frescoes and altarpieces
  • The gallery's collection of 19th-century Italian landscapes
