The Basilica di Santa Chiara is a striking pink-and-white striped Gothic church dedicated to St. Clare, founder of the Poor Clares. Built in the 13th century, it houses the saint's tomb in the crypt, as well as the original San Damiano crucifix, the very cross that is said to have spoken to St. Francis, inspiring him to rebuild the church. The interior is simple yet elegant, with a single nave and frescoes depicting scenes from Clare's life. Visitors can also see her relics and the wooden cross in a side chapel. The church's location on the Piazza Santa Chiara offers beautiful views of the Umbrian valley. A peaceful atmosphere pervades the site, making it a place for quiet reflection.
