The Saint-Martin-de-Corléans Megalithic Area is one of Europe's most important prehistoric sites, located just west of Aosta's city center. Discovered in 1969 during construction work, the site revealed a complex of standing stones, tombs, and ritual structures dating from the Neolithic to the Iron Age. The museum, built over the excavation, allows visitors to walk on elevated walkways above the ancient ground, offering a unique perspective. You'll see menhirs (standing stones) arranged in alignments, carved with anthropomorphic figures, and a large stone slab used for offerings. The site also includes a reconstructed prehistoric hut and displays of artifacts like pottery and tools. It's a fascinating glimpse into the spiritual and daily lives of Alpine peoples thousands of years ago.
