The Arch of Augustus stands as a proud reminder of Aosta's Roman origins. Erected in 25 BC to celebrate the victory of Emperor Augustus over the Salassi tribe, this well-preserved monument once marked the southern gate of the Roman city of Augusta Praetoria. Today, it sits at the eastern end of the pedestrianized Via Sant'Anselmo, surrounded by modern traffic but still commanding attention. Visitors can walk right up to the arch, examining its single, large archway and the fluted Corinthian columns that flank it. The attic originally bore an inscription, now lost, but the structure's proportions and stonework remain impressive. It's a perfect spot for a photo and a moment to imagine the ancient city walls that once stretched from this point.
