Piazza Émile Chanoux is the vibrant heart of Aosta, a lively pedestrian square where locals and visitors gather. Named after a World War II resistance hero, the square is lined with elegant arcaded buildings housing cafes, restaurants, and shops. At its center stands the Hôtel de Ville (town hall), a 19th-century building with a distinctive tower and a large clock. The square is also home to the Romanesque-Gothic cathedral (Cattedrale di Santa Maria Assunta) on its western side. Throughout the day, the square buzzes with activity, people sipping espresso at outdoor tables, children chasing pigeons, and street musicians performing. In summer, it hosts concerts and events. It's the perfect place to start a walking tour of Aosta.
