The Necropolis of Anghelu Ruju is one of the most important prehistoric burial sites in Sardinia, located about 10 kilometers from Alghero. This archaeological site features 38 rock-cut tombs known as 'domus de janas' (fairy houses), carved into the limestone between 3300 and 2700 BC. Visitors can walk among the tombs, which are decorated with carved bull horns, spirals, and other symbolic motifs. The site offers a fascinating glimpse into Neolithic funerary practices and the spiritual beliefs of the ancient inhabitants. The peaceful, sun-baked landscape adds to the sense of stepping back in time. Guided tours provide deeper insight into the carvings and the history of the excavations, which began in 1903.
