Calich Pond (Stagno di Calich) is a large coastal lagoon located just north of Alghero, separated from the sea by a narrow strip of land. This protected nature reserve is a haven for birdlife, especially migratory species such as flamingos, herons, and cormorants. Visitors can walk along the banks or follow designated trails through the surrounding Mediterranean scrub, enjoying views of the water and the distant mountains. The pond is also popular for kayaking and paddleboarding, offering a quiet escape from the city. Interpretive signs provide information about the local flora and fauna. The best times to visit are early morning or late afternoon when birds are most active. The area is easily accessible by bike or car from Alghero.

Don't miss

  • Watch flamingos and other waterbirds from observation points
  • Walk or cycle the perimeter trail (about 5 km)
  • Kayak through the calm waters of the lagoon
  • Photograph the reflections of the sky on the water at sunrise
