Knockomagh Wood is a tranquil forested area located on the hillside above Lough Hyne, a unique saltwater lake near Skibbereen. The wood offers a network of well-maintained walking trails that wind through mixed woodland, including native oak and pine. As you ascend, the trees open to reveal stunning viewpoints overlooking the lough and the rugged coastline beyond. The trail is moderately steep in places but accessible to most walkers. The peaceful atmosphere makes it a favorite spot for nature lovers and photographers. In spring, the forest floor is carpeted with bluebells and wild garlic. The wood is also part of a larger natural area that includes Lough Hyne Marine Nature Reserve, Ireland's first marine reserve, known for its rich biodiversity. Visitors can combine a walk here with a visit to the lough's shore to see seals and seabirds.
