Knockdrum Stone Fort is a well-preserved ancient ring fort located on a hilltop just outside Skibbereen, County Cork. The site features a large circular stone enclosure, a souterrain (underground passage), and an ogham stone inscribed with early medieval script. Visitors can explore the fort's interior, including the remains of huts and a possible ancient well. The elevated position provides sweeping views over the surrounding green fields and rolling hills of West Cork. This is a peaceful, off-the-beaten-path attraction that offers a tangible connection to Ireland's prehistoric and early Christian past. The site is freely accessible and typically uncrowded, making it ideal for a quiet afternoon of exploration.
