St Mary's Cathedral, also called the Cathedral of the Assumption, is a striking neoclassical landmark in the heart of Kilkenny. Built between 1843 and 1857, its design features a grand portico with six Corinthian columns and a tall spire visible from across the city. Inside, visitors find a spacious, light-filled nave with beautiful stained-glass windows, marble altars, and intricate woodwork. The cathedral remains an active place of worship, so visitors are welcome to attend Mass or simply explore the peaceful atmosphere.
