Akkana Basadi, meaning 'elder sister's temple,' is a 12th-century Jain temple located in Shravanabelagola, built by Queen Shantala Devi, the wife of Hoysala king Vishnuvardhana. This elegant temple is dedicated to the 23rd Tirthankara, Parshvanatha. The temple features a simple yet refined Hoysala architectural style, with a sanctum, a closed hall (garbhagriha), and an open pillared hall (mandapa). The pillars are beautifully sculpted with figures of yakshas, yakshinis, and floral designs. A notable highlight is the black stone image of Parshvanatha sheltered by a serpent canopy. The temple's serene ambiance and historical significance make it a must-visit.
