The Great Stupa at Sanchi is a monumental Buddhist structure commissioned by Emperor Ashoka in the 3rd century BCE. Visitors approach this iconic dome-shaped monument, surrounded by a stone railing and four intricately carved gateways (toranas). The stupa enshrines relics of the Buddha and is a masterpiece of ancient Indian architecture. Walking around the circumambulatory path, you can admire the detailed carvings depicting scenes from the life of the Buddha and Jataka tales. The serene hilltop setting offers panoramic views of the surrounding countryside.
