Lodhi Garden

Lodhi Garden is one of Delhi's most beloved green spaces, a beautifully landscaped 90-acre park dotted with the domed tombs and mosques of 15th- and 16th-century Lodhi and Sayyid dynasty rulers, set among lawns, lakes, flowering trees, and winding paths. It's where Delhiites come to jog, do yoga, picnic, and escape the city's intensity, and where history and everyday life intertwine, joggers circle medieval tombs, parakeets wheel overhead, and couples sit in the shade of 500-year-old domes.

It's free, atmospheric, and a wonderful counterpoint to Delhi's grander monuments, more intimate and lived-in. Come early morning for the birdlife and soft light, or late afternoon for golden light on the old stonework. The adjacent Lodhi Art District (street murals) and the Sunder Nursery make a lovely combined outing.

A bit of history

The garden contains the tombs of rulers of the Sayyid and Lodhi dynasties (15th–16th centuries), including the tomb of Mohammed Shah and the Bara Gumbad complex. The surrounding park was landscaped in the 20th century (originally laid out under British rule) around these monuments.
