Amrit Udyan, formerly known as the Mughal Gardens, is a stunning botanical haven located within the grounds of Rashtrapati Bhavan, the official residence of the President of India in New Delhi. Spanning 15 acres, the garden is a masterpiece of landscape design, blending Mughal, British, and Indian styles. Visitors can wander through terraced lawns, intricate geometric flowerbeds, and serene water channels lined with colorful blooms. The garden is particularly famous for its seasonal tulip displays, roses, and a variety of exotic plants. A highlight is the central lotus-shaped fountain and the 'Bonsai Garden' featuring miniature trees. The experience is one of tranquility and grandeur, offering a peaceful escape from the city's hustle. The garden's name, meaning 'Garden of Nectar,' reflects its beauty and historical significance. It is open to the public during specific seasons, typically in spring, and requires prior booking.

A bit of history

The gardens were designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens in the early 20th century as part of the Viceroy's House (now Rashtrapati Bhavan). They were inspired by Mughal gardens like those in Kashmir and incorporate elements of Persian and British garden traditions. The name was changed from Mughal Gardens to Amrit Udyan in 2023 as part of a rebranding initiative.
