The Chausath Yogini Temple is one of the oldest surviving temples in Khajuraho, dating back to the 9th century. Unlike the typical Khajuraho style with shikharas, this temple has a simple rectangular plan with 64 small cells arranged around a central courtyard, each once housing a yogini statue. The temple is dedicated to the 64 Yoginis, female deities associated with tantric practices. Visitors can explore the open-air structure, which offers a serene atmosphere and a glimpse into early temple architecture. The site is less crowded than the main western group, providing a peaceful experience.

Don't miss

  • Admire the simple yet ancient architecture, a contrast to the later ornate temples in Khajuraho.
  • Enjoy the tranquil setting away from the main tourist crowds, perfect for quiet reflection.
