Kamalapura is a small village situated about 3 kilometers east of Hampi's main temple complex, serving as the administrative and cultural hub for the Vijayanagara site. The village is home to the excellent Hampi Museum (also known as the Archaeological Museum), which displays a rich collection of sculptures, coins, and artifacts from the Vijayanagara period. The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) office is also located here, overseeing conservation efforts. Visitors can explore the museum's galleries to gain context about the empire's history and art, then walk to nearby attractions like the Kamalapura Fort or the Lotus Mahal. The village itself is quiet and less touristy than Hampi town.
