Brahmeswara Temple, built around 840 CE, is a well-preserved example of the early phase of Kalinga temple architecture. Dedicated to Shiva, it features a sanctum with a lingam, a jagamohana (assembly hall), and a towering spire adorned with sculpted figures. The outer walls are covered with panels depicting deities, dancers, and floral designs. Uniquely, the temple has a small shrine to the goddess Parvati within its compound. Visitors can observe the evolution of temple design, with elements that foreshadow later, larger temples in Bhubaneswar.

Don't miss

  • Observe the detailed carvings of gods and goddesses on the outer walls, including a rare image of Ganesha.
  • Explore the Parvati shrine within the temple complex, a distinctive feature.
  • Notice the four-armed dancing Shiva (Nataraja) panel on the southern side.
