Jallianwala Bagh is a historic garden in Amritsar that serves as a memorial to the hundreds of Indians killed on April 13, 1919, when British troops under Colonel Reginald Dyer opened fire on a peaceful gathering. Visitors walk through a narrow entrance, the same passage through which soldiers entered, and see the well where many jumped to escape bullets. The garden's walls still bear bullet marks, and a Martyrs' Well and eternal flame honor the dead. It is a place of quiet reflection and a powerful reminder of India's struggle for independence.
