Akal Takht, meaning 'Throne of the Timeless One,' is the highest temporal authority for Sikhs, located directly opposite the Golden Temple. Built by Guru Hargobind in 1609, it symbolizes the Sikh principle of balancing spiritual and temporal power. Visitors see the imposing five-story structure where important religious and political decisions are made, and where the Nishan Sahib (Sikh flag) flies high.
