Gurdwara Baba Atal is a distinctive nine-story (eight visible) octagonal tower in Amritsar, built in memory of Baba Atal Rai, the son of Guru Hargobind. According to tradition, Baba Atal performed a miracle to revive a playmate, then gave up his life at age nine. The gurdwara's unique architecture, a tall, multi-storied structure with a dome, sets it apart from other Sikh shrines. Visitors can climb the stairs to the top for panoramic views of the Golden Temple and Amritsar city. The interior features frescoes depicting scenes from Sikh history, and the peaceful courtyard offers a quiet respite.
