Reynisdrangar are three striking basalt sea stacks that jut out of the Atlantic Ocean near the black sand beach of Reynisfjara. According to legend, they are trolls who tried to drag a ship ashore but were caught by the sunrise and petrified. The tallest stack stands about 66 meters high. Visitors can view them from the beach or from the cliffs at Dyrhólaey. They are a favorite subject for photographers, especially at sunset when the light enhances their dark silhouettes.
Don't miss
- View the stacks from Reynisfjara beach for a close-up perspective of their jagged shapes.
- Hear the local folklore about the trolls from guides or information boards near the beach.
- Capture the stacks at sunset when the sky colors contrast with the black rock.
