The Monastery of Rousanou is one of the most photographed monasteries in Meteora, thanks to its graceful proportions and precarious perch atop a narrow rock pinnacle. Founded in the 16th century, it is known for its compact size and beautifully preserved frescoes. Visitors cross a small bridge to enter, then climb stairs to explore the church, refectory, and courtyard. The monastery's elevated position provides sweeping panoramas of the valley and neighboring rock towers, making it a highlight of any Meteora visit.

Don't miss

  • View the 16th-century frescoes in the katholikon (main church)
  • Walk across the stone bridge connecting the rock pillar to the monastery entrance
  • Photograph the monastery from the nearby observation point for a classic Meteora shot
