Mühlenteich is a tranquil lake surrounded by a public park on the southern edge of Wismar's old town. The lake was originally a mill pond, and today its calm waters reflect the trees and sky, creating a peaceful escape from the city. A paved path circles the entire lake, about 1.5 km, perfect for jogging, cycling, or a leisurely stroll with views of waterfowl and swans. Benches and grassy areas invite picnics, and there are playgrounds for children. In winter, the lake sometimes freezes over, attracting ice skaters. What makes it distinctive is its proximity to the historic center: you can be among medieval streets one minute and in a serene natural setting the next. The park also features a small café and a memorial stone for local poet Fritz Reuter.

Don't miss

  • Walk or jog the 1.5 km loop trail around the lake
  • Feed the swans and ducks (with appropriate food)
  • Visit the Fritz Reuter memorial stone
  • Relax at the park café with lake views
