The Church of Our Lady (Liebfrauenkirche) in Trier is one of the earliest Gothic churches in Germany, built between 1230 and 1260. Its most distinctive feature is its cross-shaped floor plan, with a central circular structure surrounded by a ring of chapels. This design creates a harmonious, light-filled interior that contrasts with the darker Romanesque Trier Cathedral next door. The church is part of the UNESCO World Heritage site 'Roman Monuments, Cathedral of St. Peter and Church of Our Lady in Trier.' Visitors are struck by the elegant ribbed vaulting, the large stained-glass windows, and the serene atmosphere. The church houses several notable artworks, including a 13th-century Madonna statue and a modern altar. Its location adjacent to the cathedral makes it easy to visit both in one trip.
