Tegernsee is one of Bavaria's most beloved lakes, nestled in a valley of the Bavarian Alps. The crystal-clear waters are ideal for swimming in summer, with several public lidos (Strandbäder) offering grassy lawns and shallow entry points. Boating is popular, from rowboats to stand-up paddleboards, and the lake's perimeter is ringed by a scenic walking and cycling path that connects the towns of Tegernsee, Rottach-Egern, and Bad Wiessee. In winter, the frozen lake occasionally allows ice skating when conditions are safe. The backdrop of forested slopes and alpine peaks makes every view postcard-perfect. Visitors can also take a boat cruise to appreciate the lake from the water, passing by historic villas and the distant silhouette of Schloss Ringberg on the hillside.
