Rotes Kliff (Red Cliff) is one of Sylt's most dramatic natural landmarks, located between the villages of Wenningstedt and Kampen. The cliff rises up to 30 meters above the beach, its distinctive red color coming from iron oxide in the clay and sand. A well-maintained hiking trail runs along the top of the cliff, providing breathtaking views of the North Sea and the endless beach below. The path is part of a larger network of trails that wind through the heath and dunes. The cliff is constantly eroding, so some sections are fenced off for safety. Visitors can also walk along the beach at the base of the cliff to appreciate its sheer height and vibrant color. The area is particularly beautiful at sunset when the red hues intensify. Nearby, you'll find the village of Kampen with its upscale shops and restaurants, making it easy to combine a cliff walk with a meal or coffee.

  • Spot seabirds like oystercatchers and gulls
  • Combine with a visit to the nearby Kampen village
