The Kampen Lighthouse, known locally as 'Kampener Leuchtturm', is a iconic red-and-white striped lighthouse located on a dune near the village of Kampen on Sylt. Built in 1856, it stands 40 meters tall and is one of the oldest lighthouses on the German North Sea coast. The lighthouse is still operational, guiding ships through the dangerous waters around Sylt. Visitors can walk around the base and admire the structure, but the interior is not open to the public. The surrounding area offers panoramic views of the dunes, the sea, and the nearby village. The lighthouse is a popular subject for photographers, especially at sunrise and sunset when the light casts a warm glow on the red stripes. A short walk from the lighthouse leads to the beach and the Rotes Kliff, making it a convenient stop on a coastal tour.
