Breitachklamm is a spectacular gorge carved by the Breitach River, located just a few kilometers from Oberstdorf. It is one of the deepest and most impressive rocky gorges in the Alps, with sheer cliffs rising up to 150 meters on either side. A well-maintained walking trail runs through the gorge, crossing bridges and passing by thundering waterfalls and swirling pools. The trail is about 2.5 kilometers long and takes visitors through a dramatic landscape of moss-covered rocks, narrow passages, and roaring water. The experience is immersive, with the constant sound of rushing water and the cool mist from the falls. What makes Breitachklamm distinctive is its accessibility, the trail is suitable for most fitness levels and offers a close-up encounter with raw natural power. It is a popular day trip from Oberstdorf, especially for families and nature lovers, and provides a stark contrast to the alpine scenery of the surrounding mountains.
