Oberau is a tranquil village that offers easy access to some of Bavaria's top attractions. Its location at the foot of the Ammergau Alps makes it a popular starting point for hiking and cycling tours, especially along the Ammer River. The village itself has a rustic charm with traditional farmhouses and a few shops. Most visitors use Oberau as a base to explore Linderhof Palace (a short drive away) or to catch the cogwheel train up the Zugspitze from nearby Garmisch. The village also has a train station with connections to Munich and Innsbruck, making it convenient for travelers. Despite its small size, Oberau has a couple of good restaurants serving hearty Bavarian fare.
