Aufacker is a 1,542-meter peak in the Ammergau Alps, offering one of the most accessible yet rewarding hikes from Oberammergau. The trail begins near the village and climbs steadily through alpine meadows and forest, with the final stretch crossing rocky terrain. At the top, a summit cross marks the spot where hikers are rewarded with panoramic views stretching across the Ammer Valley to the Zugspitze and the Austrian Alps. The mountain is particularly known for its wildflower displays in late spring and early summer, and for the relative solitude compared to busier peaks in the region. The hike is moderately challenging, suitable for fit beginners, and takes about 3-4 hours round trip. Many visitors combine the ascent with a stop at the nearby Kolbensattel cable car station for a different perspective or a quicker descent.
