The Salt Stores (Salzspeicher) are a row of six gabled brick buildings lining the banks of the River Trave in Lübeck's Old Town. Built between the 16th and 18th centuries, these imposing structures were used to store salt imported from Lüneburg, a commodity that fueled the city's wealth as a Hanseatic hub. Today, the Salzspeicher stand as a powerful reminder of Lübeck's mercantile past. Visitors can admire their distinctive stepped gables and sturdy brickwork from the riverside promenade. While the interiors are not open to the public, the exterior offers excellent photo opportunities, especially when reflected in the water. The buildings are part of the UNESCO World Heritage site and contribute to the medieval skyline that makes Lübeck so picturesque.
