Meersburg Castle, perched on a cliff above the town of Meersburg, is one of the oldest inhabited castles in Germany. Its origins date back to the 7th century, with the current structure largely from the medieval period. The castle offers a glimpse into feudal life with its furnished rooms, armory, and dungeon. Visitors can climb the tower for panoramic views of Lake Constance and the Alps. The castle's museum displays artifacts from the Middle Ages, including weapons, armor, and period furniture. The adjacent 'New Castle' (Neues Schloss) is a baroque palace built in the 18th century, now housing a museum. The old town of Meersburg, with its cobblestone streets and half-timbered houses, is a charming complement to the castle visit. Wine taverns and shops line the alleys, making it a perfect day trip from Konstanz.
