The Koblenz Fortress system is one of the largest and most impressive fortification complexes in Europe, encompassing several strongholds built primarily in the 19th century. The centerpiece is Ehrenbreitstein Fortress, perched on a hill 118 meters above the Rhine, offering breathtaking views of Koblenz and the confluence of the Rhine and Moselle rivers. Visitors can reach the fortress via a cable car from the city center. Inside, explore the museum of regional history, the treasury, and the extensive ramparts. Other parts of the fortress system include Fort Asterstein and Fort Konstantin, which are less visited but equally fascinating. The entire complex is a UNESCO World Heritage site (part of the Upper Middle Rhine Valley). A visit to Koblenz Fortress is a journey through military architecture and a must for history enthusiasts.
