Propsteikirche, Dortmund
Propsteikirche, officially St. Johannes Baptist, is a prominent Catholic church located just steps from Dortmund's main shopping streets. Originally built in the 14th century, the church was reconstructed in the Baroque style after a fire in the 17th century. Its interior is richly decorated with ornate stucco, frescoes, and a magnificent high altar. The church also houses a revered statue of the Virgin Mary and several side chapels. Despite its central location, the church offers a tranquil retreat from the urban hustle. It serves as the seat of the provost (propst) of Dortmund, adding to its ecclesiastical significance. Visitors often combine a trip here with a visit to the nearby Reinoldikirche.
