Great St. Martin Church is one of Cologne's most iconic Romanesque landmarks, situated in the heart of the Old Town near the Rhine. Its most distinctive feature is the quatrefoil (four-leaf clover) ground plan, which sets it apart from other churches in the city. The soaring central tower, rebuilt after World War II, dominates the skyline alongside the Cologne Cathedral. Inside, visitors can admire the serene, light-filled interior with modern stained glass windows and a peaceful atmosphere. The church is part of a cluster of historic buildings that include the nearby Roman-Germanic Museum and the historic fish market square. Climbing the tower (when open) rewards with panoramic views over the city and river. It remains an active parish church, so visitors should be respectful during services.
