Cologne Zoological Garden, or Kölner Zoo, is one of Germany's oldest and most diverse zoos, founded in 1860. It houses over 10,000 animals representing more than 850 species, with a focus on conservation and naturalistic enclosures. Highlights include the Elephant Park, a large open-air habitat for Asian elephants, and the Rainforest House, a tropical hall with free-flying birds and monkeys. The zoo also features a large aquarium and terrarium complex, home to fish, reptiles, and amphibians. The primate section is notable for its gorilla and orangutan exhibits. The zoo's layout is spacious and green, with plenty of shade and seating. It participates in international breeding programs and offers educational talks and feeding sessions throughout the day. The zoo is a popular destination for families and animal lovers.
