Kehlsteinhaus, also known as the Eagle's Nest, is a historic building perched atop the Kehlstein mountain at 1,834 meters above sea level. It was built as a retreat for Nazi officials and later became a symbol of the region's complex history. Today, it serves as a restaurant and viewpoint, accessible via a dramatic bus ride up a steep, winding road followed by a brass elevator that ascends through the mountain. The interior retains its original stone fireplace and wood-paneled rooms, now housing a beer garden and dining area. The panoramic terrace offers breathtaking 360-degree views of the surrounding Alps, including Watzmann and the Königssee valley. The site is only open seasonally due to snow, and advance booking is essential.
