The Perlachturm is a 70-meter-high bell tower located next to Augsburg's town hall. Originally built in the 10th century as a watchtower, it was rebuilt in the 16th century in the Renaissance style. Visitors can climb the 258 steps to the observation deck, which offers stunning 360-degree views of Augsburg's old town, the surrounding hills, and on clear days, the Alps. The tower also houses a carillon with 49 bells that chime at certain hours. The climb is steep but rewarding, with informational panels along the way detailing the tower's history. It's a must-do for anyone wanting to get a bird's-eye perspective of the city.

Don't miss

  • Enjoy panoramic views of Augsburg's rooftops, the town hall, and the Fuggerei from the top.
  • Listen to the carillon concerts, which take place daily at noon and 6 pm.
  • See the original medieval stonework and the Renaissance-style windows during the climb.
  • Spot the golden statue of the 'Perlachturm' guard on the tower's facade.
