Augsburg Cathedral (Dom Mariä Heimsuchung) is one of Germany's oldest cathedrals, with foundations dating back to the 9th century. Its current structure reflects Romanesque and Gothic phases, most notably the 11th-century bronze doors, the oldest of their kind north of the Alps. These doors feature 35 panels depicting scenes from the Old Testament and mythical creatures. Inside, the cathedral boasts stunning stained-glass windows from the 12th century, including the famous 'Prophets' windows, and a richly decorated high altar. The quiet cloister and treasury museum house sacred art and relics. Despite its age, the cathedral remains a vibrant place of worship, with regular masses and organ concerts.
