The Royal Opera of Versailles is a stunning neoclassical theatre located within the Palace of Versailles. Commissioned by King Louis XV and completed in 1770 for the marriage of the future Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette, it was designed by architect Ange-Jacques Gabriel. The opera house features a wooden interior painted to resemble marble, excellent acoustics, and a ceiling fresco by Louis Jean François Lagrenée. Today, it hosts a vibrant program of operas, concerts, and ballets, allowing visitors to experience the splendor of royal entertainment. Guided tours are available when performances are not taking place, offering a glimpse behind the scenes and into the royal boxes.
