The Gardens of Versailles are a masterpiece of French formal garden design, created by landscape architect André Le Nôtre for Louis XIV. Covering about 800 hectares, they feature symmetrical patterns, parterres, canals, and a vast network of paths. The gardens are dotted with over 50 fountains, many of which come alive during the musical fountain shows. Visitors can admire the Grand Canal, a 1.6-kilometer-long waterway used for boating, and the Orangery, which houses exotic citrus trees. The gardens also include the Bosquets, intimate groves with sculptures and hidden fountains. A visit offers a serene escape from the palace crowds, with opportunities for picnics, leisurely walks, or renting a golf cart to cover more ground.
