Les Abattoirs is a unique museum of modern and contemporary art housed in a former municipal slaughterhouse, which gives it an industrial, raw character that contrasts with the art within. The building's vast, open spaces, once used for livestock, now host rotating exhibitions of works from the 1950s to the present day. The museum's permanent collection includes pieces by major artists such as Picasso, Miró, and Dubuffet, with a strong focus on abstract expressionism and the CoBrA movement. Visitors can explore the airy galleries, the rooftop terrace with views of the Garonne, and the sculpture garden. Temporary exhibitions often feature cutting-edge contemporary artists. The museum also houses a documentation center and a café, making it a cultural hub in the Saint-Cyprien district.
