We celebrated my mother’s 80th birthday at L’Assiette & we couldn’t have been more impressed. Between us we tried most things on the menu ! Everything we tasted was stunning from the cold pea soup to the unctuous Cassoulet , creamy Cantal vieux fromage & boozy Rum Baba . The wines were delicious , perfectly matched & advised by the maitre’d / Sommelier. The service impeccable & our delightfully charming waiter really made the evening complete . We would all go back in a heartbeat!
Absolutely divine cassoulet, great wines by the glass and the salted caramel creme caramel was out of this world. Come with an nice empty tummy! We were sat by the door which doesn't shut properly so sometimes meant we were sat in an unpleasant cold draft.. but that's the only complaint.
Agreeable bistro food with a cheerful and over stretched wait staff . Besides feeling for them, I feel for us. While our soup and pork chops were pleasant, the pot of mashed potatoes arrived luke-warm without a serving spoon. When we got the utensil, they were at room temperature. After a few nights of getting full bottles of wine that two people shouldn't finish off (few restaurants seem to have half bottles), wine by the glass was acceptable but not spectacular. We would go back. Perhaps a night when two servers would be enough.
One of life’s great pleasures for me is a steaming bowl of cassoulet in a southwest bistro setting. L’Assiette hit all the pleasure centers in my brain. Flavor, nostalgia, and comforting ambience. When the bowl came, I wondered how I would finish it. When I finished, I wondered if I dared another. Well…another night. Actually the serving could easily be shared. But apart from the décor, this is no country inn. The greeting, service and menu are pure Parisian sophistication. The perfect combo. Of special note, my guest was an old army buddy, still sharp as a tack, but deep in his physical infirmities. The care the staff gave in welcoming him, assisting him into comfortable seating and helping him into a cab after was itself worth five stars. Bravo!
