The Museum of European and Mediterranean Civilisations (MuCEM) is a striking modern museum located at the entrance of the Old Port. Designed by architect Rudy Ricciotti, the building is a cube of black concrete lace, connected by a suspended walkway to the historic Fort Saint-Jean. The museum's permanent collection, 'The Mediterranean in the Making', traces the region's history from antiquity to the present, with artifacts, art, and multimedia displays. Temporary exhibitions cover topics from ancient trade to contemporary issues. The rooftop terrace offers stunning views of the sea and the city. The fort itself is part of the museum, with its own gardens and exhibitions. MuCEM is a cultural hub, hosting concerts, films, and workshops. The museum's location on the waterfront makes it a pleasant place to spend a few hours, with cafes and a bookshop.
